The new Hard Hat Interchange System creates an exceptional workplace, leaving your people healthier, safer and more productive. In accordance with ANSI Z87.1-2010, the system was designed to protect against multiple combinations of hazards challenging the industrial environment. You no longer have to choose between productivity and safety. ANSI Z87.1 was revised in 2010. For ANSI Z87.1, the balanced committee saw the need to revise the structure of the standard to encompass the changing global workplace, specifically modifying language to become a Hazard Based Standard. This encourages companies to protect employees by first engineering out the hazard and, as a last resort, implementing the use of PPE to protect the employee.
As a part of this hazards-based standardization, it is now mandated that a manufacturer must identify product combinations that can be used together, and combinations of PPE must be tested as a combination to ensure that all ANSI standards are still being met. This includes testing all face shield carriers with all face shields, all welding helmets with hard hat adapters, and all combinations of identified competitive products. When a company combines brands of PPE, they take on the liability to test the combination of PPE to ensure ANSI is still being met.
