Elite Core's CSM4 Studio Quad Custom Shop mic cables are hand-built. A good quad cable is advised in any stage or studio setting with high levels of RF and EMI noise, especially in today's wireless world. Quad cables use double conductors and are far more effective than standard balanced cables in canceling noise that can creep past even the best shield. Only the finest materials and most effective techniques are used. Every detail - the cable construction, the connector choice, the solder, the flux, the shrink tube, the testing, and the packaging, are each carefully chosen to create the finest stage and touring microphone cable.
Cable Construction
The CSM4 quad conductor cable is designed from the inside out to be the finest studio and stage grade cable. Every component of the cable itself is carefully chosen with the end goal of creating a tough, flexible, and dead-quiet microphone cable.
Inner Conductors: There are four cores that are very tightly twisted with a very short lay length. Each core is constructed of 26 strands of .1 pure bare copper. These conductors are transparent, precise, and extremely flexible. The high twist rate of these four conductors around each other results in dramatically improved rejection of electromagnetic interference when compared to standard two-conductor mic cables. In some cases, the noise reduction could be up to 20db.
Inner Conductor Insulators: The insulator that was chosen to separate the four inner conductor cores is cross-linked polyethylene or XLPE. This insulator is a thermosetting compound made from a polymer resin that has been irreversibly cured to form a special type of insulator that is less prone to shrinking when heated. Chosed XLPE over the less expensive old-fashioned PVC because it has much lower dielectric loss and, despite its smaller diameter, is easier to solder without shrinkage. PVC certainly would have been cheaper. With careful attention to selection of soldering equipment and the temperature and methods used to solder, the XLPE was the obvious choice for quad conductor CSM4. Used two blue and two white for the four insulators.
Soft Cotton Stranded Filler: To create the soft, pleasing feel of the CSM4 cable, Chosed a natural cotton filler to round out the interior of the cable. It feels right, coils the way you want it to, and is pleasant to handle. Surrounding the four inner conductors and cotton fibers is a tissue wrap that enables the cable to coil easily and be exceptionally manageable.
Braided Copper Shield: The full braided outer shield is constructed of a sophisticated matrix of tinned copper. Sixteen individual sections of 8*.1 strands are carefully braided to form an effective barrier against RF and EMI noise. It's soft, flexible, and effective in shielding from just about anything that might try to enter. With the combination of this quality braided shield plus the effectiveness of the quad spiral internal conductors, the CSM4 is the perfect cable for today's active and noisy stages and studios. The sounds and signals you want to stay inside are contained, and the noise and interference that you want to keep out is reflected away from your precious audio.
Outer Jacket: The outer jacket of the CSM4 cable is opaque black Non-Metallic PVC with an outside diameter of 6.0 mm. PVC is the perfect material for this application because it holds its shape well and has great abrasion resistance. It's easy to clean and comfortable to coil.
Connectors
CSM4 cables are hand terminated. The standard is the black connectors with silver contacts. The XX series is the next generation of the worldwide accepted standard of XLR cable connectors. The successor of the X series offers several features which make it more reliable, easier to assemble and improves contact integrity as well cable strain relief.
Technical
The technicians in the Elite Core Custom Shop have spent many years refining their techniques for consistent, stable, and reliable soldering. The finest solders and flux from Kester are exclusively used. Only the highest quality Weller soldering stations are employed. The finest 2:1 polyolefin shrink tube is used to protect the solder connections and finish out the cable. Once it's fully assembled, each cable is hand-tested, then over/under coiled and finished off with a Bongo-Tie before being sealed into a plain clear poly bag for safe travel. No money was wasted on expensive, fancy packaging that would end up in the trash anyway. While some cable companies hire high priced advertising and marketing firms to develop packaging and content in an effort to convince the market of their quality,
